On the other hand cricket bats need a lot of care,from the day we bought to the last days of the cricket bat.In this article i am going to tell you how to take of your cricket bat and maintain your bat life.
PRECAUTIONS :
1.BAT KNOCKING
Bat knocking is the most important step of making your new bat ready for the matches.If you don't knock your bat when it is new,you will have the risk getting cracks or dents when you are playing , especially when you are facing fast bowlers.So please do minimum knocking before you play your first match with you new bat.Also with some knocking,play some through downs in the nets .It will also comes under the process of knocking.
WHAT DOES IT DO ?
- It softens the fiber on the bat face
- Helps you getting best ping to your bat
- And also reduces bat vibration,when you play fast bowlers
HOW LONG SHOULD I KNOCK MY BAT ?
The more you do the knocking the more better your performance is better.If you are using a mallet i recommend you to knock it between 6-10 hours when it is new,knock in all areas like toe,edges and blades and especially in the middle.
DONT'S :
- Dont knock in the handle section area.It will weakens your bat handle attachment
Or there are many sports shops which will do knocking by the machine which was a fantastic job to your bat.
Or if you don't have much time to do these things,you have another way,there are many pre-knocked cricket bats which comes with pre-knocking,simply just buy them.But the price of these bats are little bit high compared to the bats that are not pre-knocked.If you have enough money you can go with them.
2.BAT OILING
Bat oiling helps your bat from becoming too dry.It will not make your willow become too dry.A very dry bat will have the risk of getting cracks and splitting of the grains on your bat.
If you want to oil your bat buy a lindseed oil which will cost you around 100-150 rupees.
Oil your bat in all the areas like bat face,edges and also oil on the back of the back of the bat and leave it dry.And then coat again,do atleast 1 to 2 coats.
It will make your bat shine.It will help you.
OTHER PRECAUTIONS :
- A toe guard is an important precaution to your bat.
- Add a scuff sheet to your bat face.
- Change the scuff sheet and bat grip regularly .
- visit bat service center near you if there is any serious crack to your cricket bat they will repair it.
